Desktop as a Service (DaaS) Implementation Process
Desktop as a Service (DaaS) Implementation Phases
PHASE 1
Planning & PoC
First, business objectives are set, and workloads inventoried. A proof of concept establishes a baseline of cloud readiness.
PHASE 2
Pilot
The implementation plan is created and tested to ensure performance and minimize disruption when the deployment process occurs.
PHASE 3
Implementation
Full Azure Virtual Desktop rollout including systems and user acceptance testing, admin training, and documentation.
PHASE 4
Managed Services
The ProArch team performs on-going maintenance, patching, upgrades, image management, troubleshooting, cost optimization, and alert monitoring on the AVD environment.
DaaS FAQs
What is Desktop as a Service (DaaS)?
Desktop as a Service (DaaS) is a cloud-based VDI that utilizes the infrastructure from a public cloud and a set of services from an outsourced IT partner to deliver a modern desktop experience to the end user. A managed DaaS model like ProArch’s provides application packaging, image and application management, user support, security, and more.
Why do I need to oursource DaaS?
DaaS is a Managed Service that acts as your support for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and adds skillset in areas your team may lack. It is hard to find qualified resources to manage and maintain a VDI infrastructure. ProArch is a top Microsoft partner and handles the maintance and management of AVD so your team can focus on other initiatives.
What is the difference between VDI and DaaS?
Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) uses virtual machines that IT manages to deliver virtualized desktops and applications. VDI can be on-premises, in the Cloud, or hybrid. If your organization has strict regulatory requirements and already has dedicated resources, VDI may be the better choice.
A DaaS solution provides the same benefits as VDI but removes the restrictions, cost, and complexity. With Desktop as a Service, your data and applications are stored on virtual desktops in a Cloud environment like Azure Virtual Desktop and managed by ProArch. DaaS offers an excellent solution for teams that need to scale or change on the fly, as well as for those who do not have the resources or budget to manage VDI internally.
What are the security benefits of DaaS?
DaaS keeps your data protected in a secure, virtual environment that is tailored to meet compliance requirements. With DaaS, no data resides on the endpoint so if it is lost, stolen, or compromised there is significantly less risk. Under ProArch's managed DaaS model, we handle patching and upgrades to keep threats out. Plus, we can integrate our Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services for 24/7 alert monitoring and investigation.
Desktop as a Service
Desktop as a Service (DaaS) takes a phased approach to moving workloads to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and managing them once they’re there.
Phase 1
AVD Discovery, Planning, and Proof of Concept
First, business objectives are set, and workloads inventoried. A proof of concept on a subset of workloads is performed to establish a baseline of cloud readiness for business use cases.
Phase 2
Pilot
The implementation plan is created and tested to ensure performance and minimize disruption when the deployment process occurs.
Phase 3
Implementation
Full AVD rollout including systems and user acceptance testing, admin training, and documentation.
Phase 4
Managed Services
The ProArch team performs on-going maintenance, patching, upgrades, image management, troubleshooting, cost optimization, and alert monitoring on the AVD environment.
