Frequently Asked Questions

What are Microsoft‑funded Azure engagements?

Microsoft‑funded Azure engagements are Microsoft‑backed programs that help offset the cost of partner‑delivered Azure projects. Microsoft funds approved projects that help customers migrate, modernize, secure, or expand workloads on Azure.

Funding is not cash to the customer. It is applied to approved delivery work performed by a Microsoft partner (such as ProArch) and requires Microsoft approval, a defined scope, and expected Azure usage tied to the project.

Which project types qualify for Microsoft‑funded Azure help?

Microsoft funding commonly supports projects such as:

  • Azure migration and modernization (Windows, Linux, SQL, open‑source databases)
  • VMware to Azure VMware Solution (AVS) migrations
  • Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) migrations
  • SAP migrations (including SAP RISE on Azure)
  • Data, analytics, and AI platform adoption (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, Azure AI Foundry)
  • Security envisioning workshops tied to Azure workloads

Each engagement type has specific eligibility rules, but all are designed to accelerate real Azure adoption and usage.

What does the funding pay for—and what doesn’t it pay for?

Funding covers partner‑delivered services, such as:

  • Assessments and proofs of value (pre‑sales, where applicable)
  • Architecture design and landing zones
  • Migration, deployment, and configuration work
  • Post‑sales implementation and production deployments

Funding does not pay for Azure licenses, infrastructure consumption, or unrelated consulting.

How is the funding amount determined?

Funding is based on the planned Azure Consumed Revenue (ACR) associated with the project.

  • Projects are sized using engagement “t‑shirt sizes” (XS, S, M, L, etc.) tied to expected first‑year Azure consumption.
  • Microsoft measures success by comparing baseline Azure usage to incremental usage generated by the project.

Larger or more strategic projects with higher expected Azure usage generally qualify for higher funding caps.

What information is needed to confirm eligibility and scope?

To validate eligibility, Microsoft typically requires:

  • Customer Tenant ID and TPID
  • Azure Subscription ID(s) tied to the project
  • Project scope and target workloads
  • Estimated Azure consumption tied to the engagement

This information allows Microsoft to track Azure usage and confirm the engagement meets funding requirements.

Are there timing constraints we should plan around?

Yes. Most Azure funding programs:

  • Operate within a defined fiscal program term (FY26)
  • Require delivery and proof of execution within set timelines
  • Track Azure usage for up to 12 months post‑deployment

Funding availability can be limited and is subject to Microsoft approval and capacity.

Can Azure migration funding be paired with Microsoft‑funded security workshops?

Yes. Customers often combine Azure migration or modernization projects with Microsoft‑funded security envisioning workshops.

These workshops help assess cloud security posture, threat protection, and SecOps readiness and are designed to complement Azure deployments—not replace them.
